Disability Support Worker (Community Access & Self-Care)
Support people to live independently, stay connected, and enjoy life.
About Discover Nursing Australia
At Discover Nursing Australia, we believe that great support is about building genuine relationships, encouraging independence, and helping people enjoy the things that matter most to them.
We're looking for friendly, reliable, and compassionate Disability Support Workers (DSWs) who are passionate about supporting participants with community access and self-care. Every day is different—you might be helping someone attend appointments, enjoy a coffee at their favourite café, go shopping, participate in hobbies, prepare meals, or provide assistance with personal care in their home.
Our goal is simple: to help participants live life on their own terms while feeling respected, valued, and supported.
Why Join Our Team?
We are currently seeking caring and enthusiastic Disability Support Workers to join our growing Brisbane team on a contractor (ABN/Sole Trader) basis.
Contracting with us provides the flexibility to choose when and where you work while being backed by a supportive, nurse-led organisation.
What We Offer
- Flexible working hours that fit around your lifestyle.
- Choose the participants and shifts that suit you.
- A variety of community access and self-care shifts available.
- Competitive hourly rates plus transport reimbursement where applicable.
- Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance provided.
- Ongoing support from our experienced Registered Nurse and coordination team.
- Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
- A welcoming and supportive team that genuinely values its workers.
About the Role
As a Disability Support Worker, you'll make a meaningful difference by supporting participants with their everyday goals and independence.
Your duties may include:
- Assisting with personal care, grooming, dressing, and hygiene.
- Supporting meal preparation and light household tasks.
- Accompanying participants into the community.
- Shopping, attending appointments, and running errands.
- Visiting cafés, parks, libraries, sporting events, or social activities.
- Encouraging social inclusion and community participation.
- Providing companionship and emotional support.
- Supporting participants to achieve their NDIS goals while promoting independence and choice.
No two days are the same, making this an incredibly rewarding role.
What You'll Need
- An active ABN (or willingness to obtain one).
- Australian working rights.
- Certificate III in Individual Support (or equivalent).
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current National Police Check.
- Current First Aid Certificate and CPR.
- Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module – Quality, Safety and You.
- A current driver's licence and reliable, insured vehicle (preferred for community access roles).
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are:
- Friendly, caring, and respectful.
- Reliable and professional.
- Great communicators.
- Passionate about helping others achieve their goals.
- Comfortable working independently while remaining part of a supportive team.
- Committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred supports.
Experience is valued, but your attitude, compassion, and willingness to make a positive difference are just as important.
